Has anybody experiences with other regulators than LT1528 ?
I am searching for a cheaper one.

Please feel free to have a look on Micrel. They offer nice linear regulators. It comes with internal protection against inverse power and with protection on temperature as well. The new starter kit of the GM862 from Round Solutions will come with the Micrel. It will offer a number of interfaces and features too:
- Audio connector and audio accesories like microphones, loudspeaker, analouge and digital handsfree set for vehicle tracking applications
- Interface for the CMOS camera to send JPGs
- Interface to LI battery with internal battery protection electronic
- 2 RS232 interfaces : One on V.28 and one on CMOS level
- 50 pin connetor to interface micro controller boards of customers for fast engeniering samples
- Option for a plastic enclosure with antenna connctor, planned as blox box to make fast prototypes that looks like a real ready product.

I`ve had problems with Micrel regulators, had a batch of linear regs. and 3 out of 10 failed, Micrel have finally accepted it was a batch fault.

Also found their 4685 switching reg. to run very hot, uses a bipolar switch and is not very efficient due to high on resistance of switch.

However that application ran 2.2 Amps continuously, in a GSM the average dissipation will be much lower, so should be OK.

We like the National LM2676S-ADJ

Today we have got a batch of 200 new starter kit boards. Every of the 200 Micrel regulators works fine and the ripple by 2 Watt power is much lower then by the LT1528. Your orders on the new starter kit board RS-EB-S2 by fax to +49 (0)6103 960509 are welcome.
It comes with auto power on, power on by switcher, a few more interfaces, RS232 on V.28 and CMOS level, 2 LEDs, support of charger in GM862-PCS and a lot of more.
