Round Solutions releases Wi-Fi / Bluetooth Board which can be used like a standalone board or to serve like an extension board for PingPong (IoT development hardware platform). With the Board creating and implementing IoT and M2M applications is faster. It is used to achieve a connection between machines or gather data and send them to the cloud platform. The Board saves you time and development costs for hardware and you can focus more on the programming. Wi-Fi / Bluetooth Board runs with RTOS and is programmed in C/C++ and is available as open source software. The Board is equipped with a Wi-Fi module, a Bluetooth module with integrated antenna, a programmable Microcontroller and an additional I2C interface. It has wide operating temperature, from -20° to +70°C. The Board has connectors to add one or more extension boards to other boards.
PingPong has many extension boards, one of them is Wi-Fi / Bluetooth Board. With Wi-Fi / Bluetooth board the PingPong baseboard can be easily extended to provide Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections and more functions. When you implement the extension board on the top of PingPong baseboard, you can adjust it in the development environment to fit your needs - it is a Plug ‘n’ Play system.
The microcontroller, which is built-in, is made by Microchip and provides extremely high performance. Because it has such a powerful microcontroller, the Wi-Fi / Bluetooth Board works without PingPong baseboard and can be used as a Wi-Fi gateway. The board can receive sensor data via Bluetooth and send them via WLAN in the network or even to your cloud.
The Wi-Fi module is a RN1723 module from Microchipwith an Ultra-low power consumption. The board supports SoftAp and Infrastructure networking modes. You can configure the sleep-wake cycles of the Wi-Fi / Bluetooth Board with auto-sleep and auto-wakeup mode. That is very convenient if you want that the board doesn’t work during non-working hours and for saving power. There is one more mode and it is Real-Time Clock for Time Stamping. The connection is secured with WEP/WPA/WPA2 and the Firmware can be upgraded Over-the-air using FTP. It is internet friendly with TCP/IP and UDP/IP which can be used even as a communication protocol in a private network.
The Bluetooth module is a RN4677 module from Microchip and it is SIG certified. The module uses Bluetooth 4.0 Dual mode and supports classic Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low-Energy. It has an integrated antenna. The configuration is really easy with ASCII commands and the firmware can be upgraded via UART. It supports GAP, SDP, SPP, and GATT profiles.
The microcontroller is a PIC18F25K20 from Microchip with 16MIPS CPU speed and 1.536 bytes of RAM which offers the board to work without the PingPong baseboard. Application area is wide, as mentioned, the board is for IoT and M2M applications and it can be programmed so that it fits your needs and working environment. Applications with the Wi-Fi / Bluetooth Board can be developed across all industries, e.g. in automotive industry, for automatization, connecting devices (machines), food industry, monitoring and many more.
