GL865 Not shutting down if no SIM Card installed

Type of module? A: GL865-Quad

Firmware version? A: 10.01.142

I have a strange behaviour shutting down the module if the SIM Card is not installed.

With the card installed I can issue

res = MDM.send('AT#SLED=0\r', 10) #Turn off status LED
MOD.watchdogReset() #Reset the watchdog

MOD.watchdogDisable()

MDM.send('AT#SYSHALT=0,0\r', 10); res = MDM.receive(10) #GPIOs and serial ports pins are left unchanged, DTR:No effect
raise SystemExit #Sometimes continues with script if not included!

This works correctly - no problem.

If I remove the SIM Card and repeat the run, the modem shuts down and then immediately re-boots and start again.
I have tried including AT#SHDN but the modem always restarts.
This has always worked as expected in the past (v10.01.140).

I also have

res = MDM.send('AT#SIMDET=1\r', 10); res = MDM.receive(50) #1 - ignore SIMIN pin and simulate the status ‘SIM Inserted’

I have reverted the modem to firmware v10.01.140 and the problem does not occur.
Back to v10.01.142 and the problem is back too
It is clearly a change from 140 to 142.

This is causing big problems for me now. Is there a work-around or have I missed something stupid?

Hi Peter,

this looks like firmware related. I will forward issue to Telit and get back to you.

Hi Hüseyin,

Attached is an extract from my full code. (Sample.py & Sample.pyo)

I have tried this several times and with 10.01.140 the system shuts down correctly.
With 10.01.142 the modem re-boots.

Note that with the SIM Card inserted, the modem shuts down correctly in both cases.
With no SIM Card, the modem fails to remain shutdown in v142

I am not using a SIMDET pin.

This is running on Li-ion battery only.

I monitor using RSTerm

***************************************************************************************************

The problem is more fundamental.
F/w v.10.01.140 and no script uploaded
With SIM inserted AT#SYSHALT=0,0 modem powered down and remains off
Without SIM inserted AT#SYSHALT=0,0 modem powered down and remains off

F/w v.10.01.141 and no script uploaded
With SIM inserted AT#SYSHALT=0,0 modem powered down and remains off
Without SIM inserted AT#SYSHALT=0,0 modem powered down then reboots automatically

F/w v.10.01.142 and no script uploaded
With SIM inserted AT#SYSHALT=0,0 modem powered down and remains off
Without SIM inserted AT#SYSHALT=0,0 modem powered down then reboots automatically

Change seems to have occurred since v10.01.141

Any Comment?

Regards,

Peter

The latest Firmware release (streamGL865-QUAD-10.01.143.bin) appears to have fixed the problem.
